Sometimes, we need a wake-up call.
Mine came over a soggy, cold pizza.
I was in Hungary, visiting family I hadn’t seen in years. I’d been putting off the trip, always telling myself, “I’ll lose business.” But I finally went.
One evening, we’re all at a beautiful restaurant—10 of us. And that’s when it happened.
One of my biggest clients previously asked to jump on a call.
I didn’t say, “I’ll handle it when I’m back.” or, “Can we reschedule?”
Instead, I agreed.
We just ordered, and there I am, asking the restaurant staff for a private room so I can do this call. I told myself I’d be on for 15 minutes, just to set things up, then hand it off to my team. I’d be back before our food arrives.
But once the conversation started, I couldn’t let it go. Fifteen minutes turned into an hour.
By the time, I went back to the table my family had finished eating. Everyone was quiet. And in front of me was: my plate, a cold, soggy pizza.
I’ll never forget the guilt I felt. That was the moment, I swore I’d change the way I was living.
Because what’s the point of “success” if this is the price.
Today, people think I’m joking when I say I only work 10 hours a week on my 7-figure business. Honestly? Even five years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it either.
Back then, I was the classic overworked entrepreneur.
But here’s the truth: Success should never mean sacrifice. It should mean freedom. And now, my life is proof of that.
Last month, we booked a last-minute trip for my husband’s birthday to NYC. No laptop. No “quick emails.” Just us, fully present.
A few months before that, I went back to Europe for 2 weeks. Spent real time with family— no rushing, no squeezing in visits between calls, just being there.
This kind of freedom didn’t happen by accident. I spent years grinding, making every mistake possible, and learning (the hard way).
I had to unlearn my need to control everything and build a business that runs without me:
– Systems that keep things moving.
– Automations for the repetitive stuff.
– A team who knows my business inside out.
Now, my business fits my life—not the other way around.
If I’d known this sooner, I wouldn’t have missed those birthdays, family dinners, or moments I can’t get back. I wouldn’t have spent years building a prison instead of freedom.
This is why I started my community, Next Door Hustles. It’s my passion and a long time dream.
To show other entrepreneurs there’s another way. A way to build a business that gives you life, instead of taking it.
